CARL BUNCH....OHS 1959......DIED MARCH 26TH 2011.  CARL'S EXISTENCE ON THIS EARTH WAS A MUSICAL EXPERIENCE.  HE KNEW AND PLAYED WITH FOLKS LIKE BUDDY HOLLY, ROY ORBISON, AND ELVIS PRESSLEY.  HIS SISTER KATHY BUNCH WAS A DEVOTED SISTER AND FOLLOWER, AND BOTH OF THEM WERE NEIGHBORS AND FRIENDS.  CARL IS A PART OF MUSICAL HISTORY, HAVING TOURED WITH BUDDY HOLLY ON THE LAST AND FATEFUL TOUR WHEN BUDDY DIED IN A PLANE CRASH.

The Poor Boys From Odessa, Texas.

From:  Michael Lewis Moore:  I watched this group practice across the street from where I lived at 3108 Windsor Drive.  Carl Bunch and his sister kathy were friends of mine and their home was a beehive for youth in those days.  Carl ended up seeing musical history up close by becoming friends with Roy Orbison, Elvis Pressley, Buddy Holly, and others.  I attended sock hops where these guys played.  Ronnie Smith's family and my family were friends before the teen years and his two sisters, Glenda and Scooter were friends, two beautiful people. Thanks to Richard Porter for keeping their memory alive.  I knew the other members, too, going back to junior high days at Bonham.

From the leader of the band, Richard Porter................The Poor Boys were a part of the late 50's Odessa scene.  We did sock hops at the West County Park Auditorium and the Odessa Youth Center on West 13th.  As a matter of fact, we opened the youth center on the very first night of its existence.
Ronnie died in '62.  Bob Hardwick died last year.  Carl Bunch, drummer, is now deceased. Eddie Williams still lives in Odessa and Richard Porter lives in the Dallas area.
